Helix Projects Joins Chemical Recycling Europe to Advance Circular Plastics Innovation

Helix Projects is pleased to announce it has joined the Chemical Recycling Europe (CRE) association as a new member.

Helix Projects is a new developer of large-scale chemical recycling infrastructure, converting hard-to- recycle plastic waste into circular naphtha – a true drop-in feedstock for the petrochemical industry. The company was founded by a team with experience across petrochemicals, engineering and projectfinance, on the premise that solving Europe’s plastic waste challenge at scale requires serious industrial capability.Itsfirst project, Helix Projects Netherlands, is currently at the engineering study stage. The plant is planned to produce 200 kilotonnes of circular naphtha a year, which can replace fossil naphtha in existing steam cracker assets.

The EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces binding minimum recycled- content requirements for plastic packaging from 2030, rising further by 2040. Brand owners and packaging producers will need a reliable, at-scale supply of certified circular feedstock to meet these targets – supply that does not yet exist at the scale the regulation demands. Helix Projects is one of the companies building that capacity, offering a credible route to PPWR compliance well ahead of the 2030 deadline.

CRE welcomes another company working to bring chemical recycling to commercial scale in Europe. As a CRE member, Helix Projects will work with other members, policymakers and partners along the value chain to support a regulatory framework in which large chemical recycling projects can befinanced and built.

“We are very happy to join CRE,” said Mark Vester, CEO of Helix Projects. “To reach the 2030 targets, Europe will need a lot more chemical recycling capacity, and at industrial scale. We want to help develop and build that capacity. We look forward to working with CRE and its members so that projects like ours can move forward.”
